Medicare Part D
There are four different parts of Medicare. Individuals can either choose Original Medicare, which is Parts A and B, or Medicare Advantage, which is Part C. If you do choose Original Medicare and you want drug coverage, then you’ll need to consider Part D.
Part D
Part D provides coverage for prescription drugs. It’s the only way to get prescription drug coverage through Medicare if you’re enrolled in Original Medicare. Part D is structured in a way that makes its coverage very accessible, regardless of the level of prescription drugs that you’re planning on purchasing.
Part D is structured into four different tiers. Each tier contains a certain level of prescription drugs. As the specialty of the prescription drugs increases, for instance from generic to brand-name, then the copayment also increases.
This tier system is excellent because it allows people of all different prescription needs to select the level that makes the most sense for them. If you’re someone that doesn’t currently take any prescription drugs but wants to be prepared for various scenarios in the future, then selecting the lowest tier might be the best option for you. However, if you’re someone on an expensive, complex medication, then selecting the specialty tier might be the best way to save money.
You can take a look at the prescriptions that are included in tiers before you enroll in the specific policy. This is the best way to make sure that you’re selecting the right option and will be able to save as much money as possible. Not looking into the policy could result in you having to pay out-of-pocket for a certain medication if it’s not covered.
Is Part D the Right Choice for You?
If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare and looking for a way to get prescription drug coverage, then you should definitely consider if Part D is the right choice for you. Prescription drugs can be incredibly expensive, so Part D is an excellent way to save money. One of the best features of Part D is its different tiers, so that people of all different prescription levels can choose the option that would work best for them.
If you prefer to join a Medicare Advantage plan instead of sticking with just Original Medicare, we can help you find a Medicare Advantage plan that’s available to you and offers prescription drug coverage as an added benefit.
If you’re feeling confused about whether or not Part D could be the right choice for you, consider speaking with an insurance professional that can provide you with some guidance.
